Largest ever transport to Greenland

Blue Water Shipping has recently arranged the delivery of a 300mt engine for a power plant for Nukissiorfiit in Nuuk, Greenland.

The engine was produced in Italy, and the scope of work for Blue Water was to arrange ocean freight from Trieste to Nuuk, local transport from the port to the site and finally placement of the engine on foundation inside the power plant with 2mm precision.

In addition to the engine measuring 14.5 m x 4.0 m x 6.5 m (LxWxH), Blue Water also transported a 72mt generator and various spare parts.

A trailer (SPMT) which was large enough to move the engine from the Port of Nuuk to site had to be brought in from Germany. The trailer alone weighs 90mt and is 35 meters long.

Cargo and lifting / transporting equipment was loaded on to a heavy lift vessel and discharged in Nuuk using 2 ships cranes with a capacity of 150 tons each. The subsequent road transport from port to site was completed in just 1 hours.

The transport of the engine is the largest movement ever done in Greenland and attracted a large audience and also that of the local media.
