Blue Water cycles to Paris again

Again this year, Blue Water will cycle to Paris as part of Team Rynkeby to collect money to the Children's Cancer Foundation.

Last year, 8 Blue Water colleagues, including Managing Director Kurt Skov, cycled the 1250 kilometres to Paris. This time Blue Water is "only" represented by three cyclists: Flemming Jensen, Helle Glass and Michael Rud - Helle being the only one from Blue Water  participating for the second time.

Departure 17 july

Team Rynkeby Bramming will leave from Bramming town centre on Saturday 17 July. The Chairman of the County Council Carl Holst, who participated in last year's "Tour", will say a few encouraging words and give the team a piece of parting advice.

Team Rynkeby Bramming will meet the 7 other teams on the Champs-Elysées in Paris on 23 July.

Tour Diary

7th stage

We did it. We all made it to Paris - and Team Rynkeby Bramming was the first of all the teams arriving in Paris.

When all teams had arrived at the Place de la Concorde, we all cycled together up the Champs-Elysées and out to the Boulogne Forest,  where we had lunch together.
A short day - only 80 kilometres. Everybody made it to Paris, and we all look forward to the evening's party.

It has been a fantastic experience cycling through Europe together with Team Rynkeby - an experience everyone should try.

We are now anxious to see whether Blue Water will be represented on next year's Team !

6th stage

The day was supposed to start in a nice and easy way with a number of descents. We therefore stopped to put on more clothes now that we would be going downhill.

After less than one kilometre, however, we suddenly encountered "a wall" - and we went uphill for the next 2-3 kilometres. What a way to start the day !

The "hilly" landscape continued for the rest of the day - lots of long hills and some short and steep ones. It was a really tough day after yesterday's hardships.

Everyone is worn out - but happy as well - because tomorrow we only have 80 kilometres to PARIS

5th stage

This was the day we all feared - the most demanding stage of the Tour!

We took the tought road up the HUY mountain - a distance of 900 metres with a gradient of up to 25% - also called "the Wall". After this challenge, we climbed the HUY once again taking the longer but "easier" road.

The last distance of the day included 8 upward category gradients before we reached the French border.

The weather was fine - not as hot as the other days. We all managed to get through the day in fine stile  - and we are in good spirits.

4th stage

We did not receive any status updates from the fourth stage - let's call it a diary rest day.

3rd stage

We were prepared for the rigours of the 215 km on a sweltering hot day, and therefore we consumed plenty of fluid on the way.

We were on our bikes for 9 hours, and in addition to that we had 3 breaks - so it has been a long day. Without a doubt, the high spot of the day was our lunch break where the service team had grilled sausages for us - yum-yum that was delicious.

In Holland all the 8 teams stayed at the same hotel, including the Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen and Jan Gintberg (a Danish stand-up comedian, red.). After supper we had a gathering with entertainment from each team - and of course Team Rynkey Bramming was unmatched at that!
Tomorrow (Tuesday, red.) we will cycle another 200 km in an almost flat terrain, and Wednesday we are ready to climb the Ardennes Mountains.

2nd stage

A great - but long day is reported by your special correspondents on the road.

200 kilometres in sunny weather - cloudless - approx. 26 degrees. We started at 0800 hrs and reached Bremen at 1845 hrs.

Our legs are fine - but we can feel them

Today's stage included two ferry crossings and a long ride on a cycle track along the Elbe. The Elbe on one side and sheep on the other. The cycle track was covered with sheep dirt, so we didn't talk a lot of fear of swallowing a king-size blowfly, coming directly from one of the sheep poos.

We are guaranteed entertainment in the evenings, as Leif Fabricius (Danish comedian, red.) has promised to give some of his monologues.

Despite tiredness, we are all happy and cheerful.

1st stage

Family, friends, colleagues and others sent us - 41 cyclists and a service team of 8 - off in style with great farewell festivities.

Blue Water participants: Michael Rud, Flemming Jensen and Helle Glass

It was bright sunshine. 18 kilometres before first overnight stop, however, we had to find our rain jackets. Crossing a vet rail line caused a mass crash, where 5 riders skid and hurt themselves. Flemming was one of them. See the below picture of Flemming's leg. We tried to squeeze a drop off blood out - but didn't succeed. The four others were slightly more injured!

Otherwise, it was a great ride with a quite a good wind - both headwind and tailwind - and 7 punctures! Everybody on the team are of good cheer.
