From 11 - 12 June 2011, Blue Water Shipping will be hosting the first Offshore World Cup football tournament.
The event will take place in Esbjerg with SBM Offshore from Monaco as promotor in close cooperation with Blue Water Shipping. For quite some time, SBM has had the idea of a Football World Cup for offshore companies, and with the excellent facilities in Esbjerg and the centrally located Blue Water Arena, the idea could be put into practice.
The event has obtained considerable support from mayor of Esbjerg, EfB (the local football team) and Sport & Event.
On Saturday 11 June, a total of 16 matches will be played, while the semifinals and final will take place on Sunday 12 June at Blue Water Arena.
More than 200 players in multi-ethnic teams from more than 16 countries will compete. All companies are directly or indirectly involved in exploration or oil drilling around the world. A team from the Brazilian oil company Petrobas should have attended, but unfortunately had to cancel at the last minute. Danish companies competing are DONG/Semco, Maersk Oil & Gas, NKT and Blue Water Shipping.
We expect this to be an annual tournament and hope that additional teams from Denmark and all over the world will join this event next year.
Everyone is welcome at Blue Water Arena, where the first games will start on Saturday at 09:00 and the last game on Sunday at 18.00.
